TAYO AINA | BEYOND BORDERS: NEW ORLEANS
This documentary follows Tayo Aina as he explores one of the most culturally distinctive cities in the United States: New Orleans.
Widely known for Mardi Gras, jazz, and Bourbon Street, New Orleans is often defined by its celebration. But beneath the surface, woven into its food, music, traditions, and identity, is a deeper, lesser told story rooted in Africa.
Part of the Beyond Borders series, the film captures Tayo’s journey as he uncovers how New Orleans became a cultural outlier in America, shaped profoundly by African influence. From the historic grounds of Congo Square, where enslaved Africans preserved their heritage through music and dance, to the evolution of Creole culture, a fusion of African, French, and Caribbean traditions, the city reveals a legacy that exists in plain sight.
Through immersive exploration, experiencing the cuisine, walking the streets, and engaging with the culture, the documentary poses a central question. How did Africa embed itself so deeply into the fabric of America?
Beyond Borders is a series dedicated to uncovering stories that reshape how we see the world. This is not just travel. It’s discovery.
